South Coast
We will start early at 8:00 am, driving past the Royal National Park, the oldest national park in Australia. Our first stop is at Stanwell Tops for stunning views of the spectacular rugged southern coastline.
Grand Pacific Drive
We will continue along the scenic coastal road, known as the Grand Pacific Drive, and visit the engineering marvel of the Sea Cliff Bridge. Jutting out from the cliff face and majestically sweeping over the waters of the Pacific, this is one of the South Coast’s most photogenic experiences. Take the short 15-minute walk, look down into the crystal-clear aqua waters, and you might see one of the massive manta rays that are prevalent in the area.
Seaside Towns
We will visit two charming seaside towns in the region. Our first stop is Thirroul, where you can enjoy a morning tea stop (own expense). This boutique township is popular for its beautiful beaches, magnificent views, buzzing café culture, and thriving artistic community. Thirroul is where English writer D.H. Lawrence wrote much of his novel “Kangaroo” in 1922.
Next, we will head to Kiama to see its famous blowhole, a natural rock formation that routinely spouts seawater 20 meters into the air. This beautiful town is rich with seaside history and boasts an impressive lighthouse dating back to the 1880s.
Mt Cambewarra Lookout
Leaving the coast behind, we head inland and climb to Mt Cambewarra Lookout. Enjoy a café lunch (own expense) while taking in panoramic views across nearby farmlands, the Shoalhaven River, and out over the South Coast beaches. The lookout provides 145 km of incredible views and stands 678 meters (2,225 ft) above sea level.
Kangaroo Valley
Relax on one of the most scenic drives on the South Coast as we travel from the top of Cambewarra Mountain to the delightful Kangaroo Valley. Take in lush rainforest ferns and timbers, as well as outstanding views over the coastal plateau and ocean below.
Kangaroo Valley, claimed by some to be the most beautiful valley in Australia, sits along the Kangaroo River. Home for thousands of years to the Aboriginal Wodi-Wodi people, it was first settled in 1817 and has changed very little in the past 130 years. The gorgeous sandstone Hampden Bridge is the oldest suspension bridge in Australia.
Fitzroy Falls
We will continue through this lush countryside to the breathtaking Fitzroy Falls. Take an easy walk along the rainforest track to the very top of these falls. This is a spectacular national park experience. Besides the magnificent waterfall, you might hear a lyrebird singing on the track. This native bird is noted for its unusual ability to mimic both natural and artificial sounds from its environment.
Southern Highlands
Our journey continues through some of the most delightful scenery in NSW as we head deep into the Southern Highlands. Visit the charming Georgian village of Berrima and explore the many local craft and produce stores. You may even enjoy a cold drink at the oldest continually licensed hotel in the country.
After a big day out from the coast to the country, sit back and relax on the leisurely drive back to the city. We will return to Sydney and drop you off at your hotel around 5:30 pm.
