#AMAZING WHISKY_AMAZING TASMANIA

We meet in an old flour mill close to Hobart's waterfront at 8.30am and commence our day together with a very special welcome drink - a Callington Coffee, a local twist on an old favourite and a great way to start a day that has Whisky as a key element.

At a table, surrounded by Hobartians heading to their offices, twelve meter high ceilings in the 170 year old building, your guide will introduce the whisky narrative that runs like a river through the day: Illicit distilling, whalers and drunkards, opportunity, scoundrels, risk, reward and renaissance will all be shared by your affable Driver- Guide.

We leave Hobart together in our Executive Class 12 seater Bus, and drive 27km to Richmond, a delightful village with immense heritage value, where we have ample time to wander and explore. Walk over Australia’s oldest bridge, be curious in a puzzle shop or the Pooseum, perhaps get lost in an immersive and living hedge maze at Amaze Richmond. Before departing, a scallop pie at the Richmond Bakery, or some lollies or an ice cream at Sweets & Treats in the Village Square may tempt you. 

Next we drive through quintessential rural Tasmania, heading to historic Oatlands, and Callington Mill, Tasmania’s newest and most ambitious Distillery. Oatlands is in fact Australia's most intact Georgian town with over 80 sandstone buildings dating to the early 1830's. With so much stone and a brand new state of the art multi-million dollar Distillery the next 100 years looks promising for this quiet little town.

At Callington Mill, there is plenty of time to wander around the precinct and self guide through the Distillery, there is much to absorb and appreciate in this major heritage and distilling project. We will meet for our Whisky Tasting together, a flight of four Callington Mill Whiskies that will showcase the subtle variations arising from aging in different barrels.

On the return to Hobart, we make one final stop at Old Kempton Distillery. Elegant, numerous awards, a true artisan distillery and a wonderful ambassador for Tasmanian Spirits and the Tasmanian Spirit. Relax in the grand Coaching Inn built in 1842, and consider whether a single malt whisky, liqueur or gin will make it to your lips.

During the day we point out and highlight all of the other Distilleries and characters, and how you can visit or taste their wares, including how to find The Still, a venue in Hobart where you can enjoy a wee dram from anyone of Tasmania's Distilleries, as well as many others from around the globe. Back in Hobart around mid-afternoon, we finish the tour at Lark Cellar Door just around the corner from where we started. 

This tour is designed to be accessible for everyone, with all tastings and extras optional. It is a day in the countryside connecting with our past and imagining the future as we really enjoy the day, with the Whisky tastings being a bonus.
